Survey shows 34% of likely voters support the L.A. city councilman, 22% back city commissioner Ron Galperin and nearly 44% are undecided in the low-profile contest. In a USC Price/L.A. Times survey, the outgoing mayor gets a favorable rating from 53%. Among Latinos, that number is 71%, and for Democrats it's 63%. Despite stubborn financial problems and reductions in city services, a majority of L.A. voters give departing Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa good marks, a USC Price/Los Angeles Times poll has found.

Brush fire erupts in Monrovia; 200 homes evacuated

Crews use water-dropping helicopters, bulldozers and an air tanker to deter the fire from reaching the Angeles National Forest. The blaze was sparked by a tool in a home's backyard. A brush fire forced the evacuation of about 200 homes in Monrovia on Saturday as firefighters worked to keep flames from spreading into the San Gabriel Mountains.
